4 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Installing a Pool

Mar 07, 2021

It’s always exciting to start dreaming about building a new swimming pool. Imagining the sparkling blue oasis in your backyard that you can dive into on a hot day is the easy part! But before you can make that dream happen, here are 4 questions to ask yourself before installing a pool.

How big of a pool can I install in my yard?

One of the first questions to ask yourself is just how much pool will fit in your yard and how much space you’ll want your pool to take. This will ultimately determine which pool you choose. It’s best to nail down just how much room you have to work with.

Big dreams of a big pool, but feel your yard is too small? No worries! With Narellan Pools, there are plenty of pool sizes that will fit easily in a small backyard but are still big on style!

What material should I use?

Once you know the size of the pool you’d like, let’s talk about the material. What are your options? There are a variety of swimming pool materials to choose from, but the top three choices are vinyl, gunite, and fiberglass.

Vinyl is a nice, affordable option for an inground pool and does offer some customization capability. However, they aren’t nearly as durable as their gunite or fiberglass counterparts and do eventually need to be replaced after some time.

Gunite is great for customizations. It’s poured exactly how you envision it and is considerably more durable than vinyl. However, gunite pools are an expensive choice, and, despite their durability, they are prone to cracking. If not done properly, this means their repairs are costly, as well.

While each pool type has their merit, there are also several benefits to fiberglass pools over vinyl and gunite. In comparison, fiberglass pools offer a variety of customization options like gunite pools do without the hefty price tag. And they last much longer than vinyl pools due to their higher quality and durability. Some of the other perks of fiberglass pools include:

What pool design style do I like?

There are several subcategories to consider when designing your pool. Along with size and material, you’ll need to think of shape and color. This is where you can really make your dream pool your own. No pool needs to be the same!

Do you like clean, contemporary lines? Or do you prefer a more freeform, lagoon-style? Once you know the size and material you need, you can start narrowing down your pool design choices to fit within those parameters.

Which pool builder should I choose?

Now that you have size, material, and dream design down, it’s time to start doing research on the best pool builder! This will probably take the most time, but it’s the most important aspect of installing a pool.

Referrals and reviews are a great place to start. Doing a quick search online helps, too, but be sure to read reviews in depth. You’ll want to ensure that you work with a pool builder who:
